Medical practices are facing a new deadline. The one-year grace period that followed last year’s inauguration of ICD-10 is about to end. When October 1, 2016 arrives, you will have to start coding with greater specificity and also get used to many new codes that CMS is going to activate. It will be important to monitor payers implementation of coding edits that require more specific diagnostic coding. The 2017 ICD10 codes are available for use beginning 10/1/16.
