Required Nondiscrimination Notice

As it became official earlier this month, healthcare providers must publish nondiscrimination notices – including disclosures that they provide language assistance services. The rule is based on Section 1557 of the Affordable Care Act which “prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, sex, age or disability in certain health programs and activities.” Covered entities include providers and programs that receive federal funds – such as Medicare and Medicaid.

The notice should be displayed in a prominent location and does have certain content requirements. The OCR has provided a sample notice to help in creating a notice for your practice: http://www.hhs.gov/sites/default/files/sample-ce-notice-english.pdf
