During the month of August, Cigna began the denying the pediatric administration codes 90460 & 90461. The following is a statement from Cigna on the issue and their resolution: “From August 20, 2017 through August 31, 2017, an internal systems error caused vaccine administration services (Current Procedural Terminology [CPT®] codes 90460 and 90461) to be denied. While this affected a high volume of claims due to flu season and back-to-school examinations, the payment of the actual vaccine and other services billed on the claim were not affected by this error. Only the billed administration codes were being denied. An interim solution was put in place today, September 1, 2017, to pay claims with CPT codes 90460 and 90461. We have begun reprocessing denied claims for the affected CPT codes, and expect to have all claims remediated by the end of October. As such, there is no action required by affected providers as a result of this systems error.”
