The January 2018 edition of HBMA’s RCM Advisor included an article on the utilization of software robots to enhance revenue cycle management efforts. Because a significant portion of our workflow is repetitive and rules-based, robotic process automation (RPA) is gaining momentum in the world of healthcare RCM. Per the HBMA article, “Robots interact with software applications the same way as humans, using a very specific set of pre-defined rules and decisions to guide the robot’s work.” RPA represents an opportunity to reduce monotonous work while freeing up valuable human capital to focus on more high value tasks.
