CMS Seeks Lessen Burden on Participating Providers

CMS has announced a proposed rule to “relieve the burden on healthcare providers by removing unnecessary, obsolete or excessively burdensome Medicare compliance requirements…” As stated on CMS.gov, Many of the proposals simplify and streamline Medicare’s conditions of participation, conditions for coverage and other requirements for participation…”. This is the latest in CMS’s Patients over Paperwork initiative that began in 2017. Recent statistics form CMS suggest 81% of practices now spend more effort dealing with quality measures than three years ago – averaging 15 hours per week and more than $40,000 per year (per physician).
