Medicaid expansion under the Affordable Care Act has driven demand for managed-care services in most states, and most recent federal data found that 53.9 million people are enrolled in Medicaid managed-care plans. The 2020 Kaiser study noted above found that Medicaid managed care plans averaged a $71 gross margin per member per month in 2020 (up from $36 pmpm in 2018).
