The Consolidated Appropriations Act, 2022 has approved the extension of telehealth coverage for at least another five month period after the government declares an end to the nation’s public health emergency (PHE) that is currently set to expire April 16th. The AMA expressed support for the new law stating “Telehealth has huge potential to expand access to high-quality virtual care for all Americans.” The Medicare Payment Advisory Commission is also tasked with issuing a report on the possibility of permanent telehealth coverage by June 15, 2023.
