Price transparency will continue to be a focal point for the healthcare industry in 2018. With the rise in high deductible health plans and the increased engagement with patients as informed consumers, the market demands for up front pricing is a trend that will continue. The state of Colorado effected a new law as of January 1, 2018 that requires hospitals to post self-pay prices for the most common procedures and treatments, and physician’s offices to post the prices for their 15 most common procedures. The shift toward price transparency promotes greater competition among providers to offer the best price and the best quality – a positive direction for the industry and the American patient.
