Effective January 1, 2022, provisions of the No Surprises Act will afford new billing protections for uninsured patients, as well as those receiving care from out of network providers. Providers and facilities must now provide qualifying patients with a “good faith estimate” for the services and supplies expected to be a part of the same scheduled experience.
- The provider or facility must provide a list of all items and services associated with the visit before an item or service is scheduled.
- The good faith estimates must be provided in writing and include descriptions and billing codes (CPT / HCPCS) of the services and supplies to be rendered.
- This is a new requirement that all providers / practices need to be aware of, and it will be important that scheduling staff be educated on how these patients and the GFE’s need to be handled.
- Please contact HuTech Resources for any additional information on updating practice policies and procedures to accommodate this new legislation. (Sample forms, FAQ’s and additional documentation available upon request).
