On December 29th, The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) announced that all 50 states will receive awards under a $50 billion initiative to strengthen and modernize healthcare in rural communities across the country. In 2026, states will receive the first-year awards from CMS averaging $200 million within a range of $147 – $281 million each. More than 60 million Americans live in rural areas that will benefit under the program.
